About Us

The Tempoetic story started around 1986 when the founder was busy working 7 gigs a week in Sydney, Australia and couldn’t find reliable muso’s to back him up. There were plenty around, but they jumped from gig to gig at the last minute with little loyalty.

Being a multi-instrumentalist, he decided to create his own band by recording all their parts himself then multi-tracking them together to have this ‘band’ ready when others pulled out. This was in the very beginning stages of personal computers and no MIDI files were available on the internet. As it turned out, these backing tracks sounded better, cost less and were 100% reliable! And thus was born MIDI Tracks Australia and later MTA Productions and then Soundbank for a time – which is why you may see these names mentioned in our catalogue. For example; all song SKU’s start with MTA and many of our chord charts are watermarked with Soundbank. All of these ventures were forerunners to the Tempoetic you see here today. It’s been quite a journey!

Fast forward to today and our backing tracks – while only small in quantity – have been sought out and used by millions of professional muso’s all over the world. From touring bands, recording artists & studios, stage shows, concept bands, TV shows and movies, trio’s, duo’s and of course – one man bands. We love hearing stories of how they’re being used and by whom.

So although our catalogue quantity is small, our quality is big. Evidenced by the calibre of people who use them.

How we make them

In the current age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and voice-stripping, our tracks are among just a handful of producers who stick to the old craft and physically play every note of every instrument into each track. This is why our tracks sound so authentic, because there is nothing pretend or fake about them. Nothing is generated. No drum machines or assisted automated ‘player’ technologies.

If they’re so good, why are they so cheap?

Most of the songs in our catalogue were made by order. A special request to create the song just like the performer wanted it. Naturally, they pay a premium for this service as they take hours and even days to create. But we don’t charge huge studio prices. We look at the long term. So once we hand it over to them, it goes into our catalogue, as part of our standard terms and conditions. This is how we recoup the cost of our efforts over the long term.

If you’re just discovering Tempoetic for the first time, welcome! I’m glad we found each other and I look forward to helping you get the exact backing track you need.
