Dragon are one of the great trans-Tasman survival stories. Formed in New Zealand with adventurous progressive-rock ambitions, they relocated to Australia and found a potent new identity around Paul Hewson’s songwriting, Marc Hunter’s charismatic vocals and a run of irresistible late-1970s singles.
“April Sun in Cuba” and “Are You Old Enough” helped Australians claim the band as their own, while later reinventions proved the songs were not tied to one era. Induction into both the New Zealand and ARIA halls of fame recognises a catalogue that joins sharp pop instincts, rock drama and a history as turbulent as it is triumphant.
